Lead Pastor

Pastor Robert has been faithfully serving as pastor of Independent Community Church of Big Sandy for going on 6 years. His passion for teaching God's Word and standing for biblical truth has made a significant impact in our community.

Before his ministry in Big Sandy, Pastor Robert was actively involved in political advocacy as the Trump Campaign County Chairman in Jackson, Michigan - the birthplace of the Republican Party - starting June 16th, 2015. He and his team knocked on thousands of doors and distributed signage throughout Michigan, playing a key role in the 2016 campaign.

Our History

Tracing God's faithfulness through the generations of our church family.

1891

Church Founded

Independent Community Church was established by a group of faithful believers who wanted to create a Bible-centered church in Big Sandy. The church building was constructed in 1891 and has served as a landmark of faith in the community.

1980

Expansion & Growth

The church continued to grow, leading to the addition of Sunday School classrooms, a fellowship hall, and updated facilities. This period marked the beginning of our active community outreach programs.

2020

New Leadership

Pastor Robert James Sutherby began his ministry at Independent Community Church, bringing passion for biblical truth and a commitment to standing firm on Christian values. His leadership style emphasizes being doers of the Word, not just hearers.

Homeless Shelter Ministry

Our church opened a homeless shelter above the church building, demonstrating our commitment to serving those in need. This ministry reflects our calling to be the hands and feet of Jesus in practical ways, providing shelter and hope to the community.

Today, Independent Community Church continues to be a beacon of faith in Big Sandy, standing firm on biblical principles and absolute truth.
